The 472th edition of the Eurobarometer is all about sport and physical activity, or more accurately, the lack of it. The main finding of the research is:

‘Nearly half the Europeans never exercise or play sport, and the proportion has increased gradually in recent years’.

On 6th-7th of March 2018 all partners of the Let’s #BEACTIVE project met in London to make a state of play and look at the road ahead. Many partners signalled a lot of enthusiasm from the fitness clubs to participate in the project and help turning the tide on inactivity.

EuropeActive attended the conference Linking the Learning Journey, organised by the national qualifications framework for Scotland (SCQF) on February 22, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland. The event was attended by ~180 participants from different schools, colleges, and training providers from the public and private sector to showcase all aspects of the Framework demonstrating its scope and flexibility as a tool to facilitate lifelong learning.

EuropeActive has attended today, January 25 2018, the 1st European Education Summit, dedicated to "laying the foundation of the European Education Area: for an innovative, inclusive and values based education". The summit has been hosted by Tibor Navracsics, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport.

EuropeActive is actively contributing to the EU Platform for action on Diet, Physical Activity and Health since 2015.

EuropeActive will participate to the 8th Conference of HEPA Europe on November 15 to 17, 2017 in Zagreb, Croatia. The event is hosted by the Faculty of Kinesiology of the University of Zagreb and cosponsored by WHO/Europe. The conference will address the main theme of “Modern approaches to physical activity promotion and measurements”.

On the 11th October, EuropeActive joined the #BeActive Awards in Marseille, the current European capital of sport. Commissioner Navracsics showed his appreciation to the National Coordinating Bodies and the Official Partners for the success of the 2017 European Week of Sport. 

What progress has the commission made in coordinating actions across the Directorates to increase the number of people exercising? - MEP Harkin asked the Commission.

On the 22nd of September 2017, the European Commission's Seminar on Healthy Lifestyle in Tartu ended with the publication of the Tartu Call for Healthy Lifestyles from the European Commissioners Navracsics, Andriukaitis and Hogan. Overall, the Call includes 15 important actions that have to be taken in a fight with a sedentary lifestyle and an unhealthy diet.
