Higher education is for the smart ones and Vocational Education and Training (VET) is only a second choice?
The main theme of the convention was the implementation of the European pillar of social rights and the upcoming Multiannual financial framework. During her introductory speech Marianne Thyssen, the European Commissioner for employment, social affairs and labour mobility, called upon all participants to support her in the upcoming budgetary talks, launching the rallying cry “not a cent less for social!“.
Alberto Alemanno, Professor of Law at HEC Paris, gave a key note speech on the importance and the power of citizens lobbying, pointing out the huge untapped potential of this type of lobbying.
The workshops and round tables were all related to the implementation and the future of the pillar. Looking at current and future obstacles and looking for ways to remove them. The conference was concluded with a panel discussion, recapping the main talking points of the day.
